Weather Update – Tropical Cyclone Alfred (Now a Low Pressure System)
NOTE: We expect flights from Sunshine Coast will resume tomorrow but may still be delayed or cancelled due to rains. A lot of businesses will remain closed today as they stood down their staff however some food and beverage businesses will not be open.
The threat of Tropical Cyclone Alfred has now passed, with the system downgraded to a Low Pressure System overnight. It is currently sitting just north of Bribie Island and moving north. While the system is yet to officially cross the coast, we are no longer expecting significant impacts.
Current Conditions & Resort Services
We were fortunate that the system stayed further south and weakened before reaching the coast. However, our response was based on official forecasts and advice from local and state authorities, which required us to prepare for the worst. We appreciate your understanding as we prioritized the safety of our staff and guests.
- Limited services will continue today (Saturday, March 9), with a staff member available at reception for towels and amenities.
- We will attempt to return to normal operations tomorrow (Sunday, March 10), provided conditions allow for safe staff travel.
Remaining Weather Risks & Precautions
While the immediate threat has passed, some hazards remain:
- Beach Conditions: The ocean will deteriorate over the coming days with increasing wave heights and possible beach erosion.
- Please do not enter the water until Surf Life Saving deems it safe.
- Strong Winds: Gusty northerly winds will continue but are not expected to cause major issues.
Flash Flooding Risk:
- Heavy rainfall or storms could still lead to localized flash flooding—stay updated via the BOM website or app for severe weather alerts.
- Noosa River remains on Flood Watch and should be monitored.
Seahaven Resort Access:
- Due to the potential for heavy rain overnight, Seahaven Reception will be sandbagged from 6 PM tonight to prevent water ingress.
- After 6 PM, please use the fire stairs or enter via the beach gates off the boardwalk.
- Power Supply: The risk of extended power outages is low, but brief interruptions may still occur due to storms.
We thank you for your patience and cooperation over the past few days. If you require assistance, please visit reception.
Stay safe,
The Seahaven Noosa Resort Team
